Boundaries

Honeeeyyy I am sure you know what time it is! Grab your tea and honey because it’s about to get real. Have you gone through life not setting boundaries? I have for years but as I’ve gotten older I have grown to understand the benefits of setting boundaries or giving people or things a required limit that can be crossed.

What is the definition of boundary? Boundary is a line that marks the limit of an area, a dividing line. I’m in awe of the definition as I write this. When daddy God gave me this blog he wanted me to understand boundaries, but I didn’t realize to the extent how powerful setting boundaries are.

Think about the separation of land and sea/ocean, how is it that the sea/ocean understands their limitations. The earth is 70% water but every body of water knows their limit. When your on the beach the waves/tide reaches a certain limit on the shore. It’s amazing to even think about it, these things all have self-control.

The universe has their limits or self-control as well. How does the sun just sit their big as day and not touch the earth. Or any planet or stars they have their boundaries as well. God said hmmmm let me keep this hot lava of a sun and other planets in place, boom gravity will fix this. This thing amazes me.

If this is normal for nature to obey their boundaries why is it that we don’t set boundaries? We are quick to set boundaries when on vacation with work. Emails are shut completely down to regroup. Boundaries are great to prevent things or people from stepping over your limits. Hey Jesus did it. I’m sure your thinking when did Jesus set a boundary to regroup. You will find Him often taking a break to speak with God alone. Telling the disciples to go ahead as he sends the people away then he went to the mountains to pray.

I would place this on your vision board, adopt boundaries. Everyone needs the space to regroup and everyone needs that fine line between advice and you allowing someone to dictate your life. It’s also a fine line of pouring into someone or something and getting that time to replenish yourself. It takes self-control and wisdom to know when you need to replenish your soul. I believe if we practice setting boundaries our stress level will be lower.

I can speak personally at times I’ve had a hard time with setting boundaries. Pouring into others when I am literally on E; burning on fumes. Literally as soon as someone calls I am there, whether it was to pray, dish out business ideas for free I might add, ministering etc. I had no self-control to let God be God without thinking it had to be done by or through me constantly being available. Finding that line to set especially to replenish with God was hard. As I’ve grown and realized that God will be God in their lives and me setting that boundary while understanding I am not God put me at ease to set even more boundaries.

I now know my limit that God has given me and I will use it. I will not step over the line that’s been given to me and that I’ve set. Just imagine how much peace I’ve obtained, with setting boundaries. Pouring from an empty cup can be tiresome, pouring from a cup with boundaries can be even more fruitful.

I ask you…have you set boundaries or made them a priority? If not, ask God that he gives you wisdom in your life to set boundaries or help with self control on areas in your life.

Gracefully Loved,

Tia

  1. Sis……this blog is so essential…to anybody…but especially a believer. Often times in ministry, we don’t set boundaries for the fear of neglecting the people. It’s a very important balance and we, as servers, benefit greatly from that. I love it!
